Darlington Association on Disability (DAD) is proud to be part of the Travel with Confidence project – a regional initiative funded by the Motability Foundation and delivered in partnership across the Northeast and Cumbria by the Good Life Collaborative.
As the lead partner for the Darlington area, we’re offering a free, accredited Travel Training course for adults with a learning disability and/or autistic adults who would benefit from developing the skills and confidence to use public transport more independently.
Our sessions are practical, supportive and tailored to individual needs. So far, learners have:
✅ Planned real-life journeys
✅ Built problem-solving skills
✅ Supported each other and worked as a team
✅ Used local buses and trains
✅ Explored Darlington train station and Teesside International Airport
This is about more than just travel – it’s about building confidence, independence, and the freedom to get out and about safely.

As a local organisation we very much rely on the support of our local community. We support over 2,000 people every year to have greater choice and control and remove the barriers that disabled adults and children experience in their everyday lives. But we need YOUR help.
