Personal Assistant

(Personal Assistant ie Play and Leisure Assistant supervising disabled children and young people)

Grade: £7.50 - £8.70 per hour

Area of work: Borough of Darlington and surrounding area

Place of work: Outreach service based from Darlington Association on Disability offices, Darlington Association on Disability’s Independent Living Hub

Hours: 20 hours per week including evenings and weekends

Contract until May 2020

Mileage: Mileage allowance payable

NB. The post is subject to satisfactory completion of 12 week probationary period

Purpose of the post:
To deliver the personal assistance service to disabled young people participating in the Tees Valley YMCA’s “Open Access Youth Services”. The post holder will provide a bridging service supporting disabled young people to access the new generic youth services, specific groups and activities, in addition to ensuring access to high quality flexible support that meets individual need.

The successful applicant will need:

Education and Qualifications: 
Relevant child care or youth work qualification or working towards qualification
Valid First Aid certificate or willingness to train as a first aider

Experience and Knowledge
Recent experience of working with children or young people
Understanding of the need to maintain confidentiality
Understanding of Safeguarding and Child Protection or willingness to undertake training

Ability to form positive relationships with children and young people while maintaining professional boundaries
Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
Ability to communicate with a range of audiences including colleagues, parents and carers and play and leisure staff
Ability to take responsibility for own actions and behaviour and be able to reflect on previous experience to develop own practice

Personal Qualities
To act as a positive role model for children and young people
Reliable and punctual
Ability to work flexibly including evenings, weekends and school holidays
To comply and work within DAD’s policies and procedures

Previous experience is not needed. Training is provided. You must be aged 16 or over.
