Out Reach

As part of Darlington’s premier user-led, truly accessible initiative, it became apparent that our members wished to use our services for support in the wider community. Through accessing the Independent Living Hub our members have the opportunity to utilise support to go shopping, go to the cinema or go for a bite to eat, to name a few. Our Outreach opportunity breaks down barriers and is available to all at times that suit you.

If you have a Direct Payment, a personal budget or pay for your own support you may be able to access our Outreach. We will provide you with a Personal Assistant on an hourly basis, at times arranged by you. With the P.A. you can choose the activities that you need support with, which could include, shopping either at supermarkets or the town centre Our staff are trained to support people who wish to go to the cinema, access a gym, swimming and hydrotherapy facilities. It could be going to the football, a pamper day or support preparing your meals just how you like them.

‘Outreach’ has been a huge success, but don’t just take our word for it, here are the thoughts of some of the People already accessing our support.

Wilma - “I enjoy the support as I can choose how I use it and I’m able to use a chair that is more accessible to shops in town.”

Raj - "Using ‘Outreach’ has been so enjoyable that I want to do more in the community. With the excellent support I feel I am becoming the person I used to be. I would encourage everyone to try it."
