Direct Payments Support Service Employer Bulletin

November 2014

We send an Employer Bulletin with every payroll that we process. The bulletin provides general information around your employer responsibilities but will change from time to time as and when legislation does so it is important that you read it each month. We are here to help, so if you have any queries please contact us.

Arranging Christmas Cover

It may still be Autumn but we know many people are already preparing for Christmas. It is this time of year where employers are trying to manage holiday requests from their staff, please contact us if you would like support to discuss the options available to you.

Christmas Payroll

As you will know, we run payroll every 4 weeks for Direct Payment employers. In December we will be running payroll early due to the festive bank holidays and so are asking employers to call in with their Personal Assistant’s hours on the 15th December.

The Direct Payment Support Service will be open as usual throughout the Christmas period except for bank holidays and you can contact us via the usual telephone number on 01325 360524.

Skills for Care - Training grants

If you employ your own care and support staff, you can apply for a grant from Skills for Care to pay for training for you and your personal assistant. The type of training you could use the money for is:

• being a good employer/boss
• health and social care qualifications
• food hygiene and nutrition
• emergency first aid
• communication skills
• condition specific awareness like dementia, stroke, autism, spinal injuries.

The money is available until 27th February 2015 and any course and qualifications must be paid for and started by the 31st March 2015. HMRC Payments

If we support you to pay HMRC, it is your responsibility to make sure that you get your HMRC payments to us in good time to ensure we have enough time to get it to HMRC by the due date. If penalties are issued you may be personally liable. If you are worried about getting your payments to us in good time, please contact us so that we can support you.

Insurance

When renewing your employer’s liability insurance, we would always recommend you take out the enhanced cover which provides you with employment law advice.

It is important that you ring in with the hours on the above dates before 11am or you can leave a message on the Direct Payments answer machine on 01325 360524 together with your name and telephone number or fax us on 01325 267758. You can also email your hours to us: directpayments@darlingtondisability.org.

If you wish you can ring in with your hours on the Friday before.

Please remember to tell us about any holiday or sick pay.

We will send you details of payments to be made by the Friday of payroll week.
Please note if you receive your payroll details from us before this and choose to pay your personal assistant early, please make them aware that this is not their normal pay day, as there may be occasions when we are only able to get payroll details to you by the Friday.

The dates market * have been brought forward because of the Christmas holidays. When calling in hours for this period please give the hours for the four week period since the last payroll. Please remember to include any enhanced rates that you may want to apply to the bank holidays and please remember to check that you have sufficient funds in your Direct Payment account if you decide to pay your PA’s early.
