Direct Payments Support Service Employer Bulletin

Christmas 2014

The purpose of the monthly bulletin is to provide you with general information around your employer responsibilities but will change from time to time as and when legislation does so it is important that you read it each month. We are here to help, so if you have any queries please contact us.

January Payroll

The next payroll date is Monday 19th January 2014. For those of you who may have paid your employee’s a week early due to the Christmas holidays please note that it will be 5 weeks until they are paid again, you might want to let your employee’s know this when you pay them.

Sleepovers / National Minimum Wage

If you use sleepovers, your insurers have issued new guidance around the national minimum wage which may or may not affect you. Please contact your insurers or ourselves if you would like further information or support with this.

Holiday Pay

There are only 3 months left in the holiday year - it is important that your PA’s take their holiday entitlement before the end of March 2014. If you need any support with holiday calculations please contact us.

Skills for Care - Training grants

If you employ your own care and support staff, you can apply for a grant from Skills for Care to pay for training for you and your personal assistant. The type of training you could use the money for is:

• being a good employer/boss
• health and social care qualifications
• food hygiene and nutrition
• emergency first aid
• communication skills
• condition specific awareness like dementia, stroke, autism, spinal injuries.

To find out more and to apply, visit the Individual Employer Funding page on the Skills for Care Website. The money is available until 27th February 2015 and any course and qualifications must be paid for and started by the 31st March 2015. Christmas Drop In

We would like you to join us at this festival time of the year for tea’s / coffee’s and nibbles at The Independent Living Hub, West Lodge, West Crescent on Thursday 18th December between 1 and 3pm. You can chat to staff, members and volunteers and enjoy the spirit of Christmas.
