Direct Payments Support Service Employer Bulletin

August 2015

The purpose of the monthly bulletin is to provide you with general information around your employer responsibilities but will change from time to time as and when legislation does so it is important that you read it each month. We are here to help, so if you have any queries please contact us.

Double Tax month

Once a year two tax payments are due in the same month. To try to avoid the confusion which this has previously caused, we will not be collecting tax from you this month so you will notice that there is no tax showing on your letter for this tax period. Any tax due for this month will be added to next month’s letter.

Please be aware that if for any reason you have no hours to process next month, you will still receive a payroll letter detailing any tax due for this period.

Bank Holiday Payroll Date - Monday 3 August 2015

The next payroll date falls on a bank holiday therefore we are asking, if possible, would you call your hours in on Friday 28 August so that we can make sure you receive your payroll by the due date which is Friday 4 September 2015. If you have any problems with these dates please call.

Standard Hours

If your payroll hours are the same every month and only change to account for holiday hours and sickness then our Standard Hours service may help you. We will automatically process the same hours for your PA’s every payroll period so you will only need to ring in if the hours need to change. For more information please contact us.
If you already use our Standard Hours service, please remember to let us know if there are any changes to your payroll such as holiday pay and sickness.


When renewing your employer’s liability insurance, we would always recommend you take out the enhanced cover which provides you with employment law advice.

Holidays for employees

You must give your employees the opportunity to take paid holidays. They are entitled to 5.6 weeks off a year, this includes bank holidays. We can support you with calculating your employee’s holiday entitlement.

Contract of Employment

You need to have a contract of employment for every person you employ. This is an agreement between you and your employee and gives details of employment rights, responsibilities and duties. This should be provided within two months from when they start to work for you. Both yourself and your employee should have a signed copy of the contract.
