TV or Radio - a lifeline for you?

There is an organisation that gives elderly and disabled people the chance of a television or radio if they can not afford a new one. To apply contact Wireless For The Bedridden on 0800 018 2137, or see their web site www.w4b.org.uk.

Do You Have Arthritis?

Do you have Arthritis or do you care for someone who has Arthritis? Given that there are over 200 types of Arthritis, a large section of the population, of any age, can be affected by it.

At Arthritis Care, the people who run the local branches or lead the training courses don't profess to be medical experts in all of the forms of arthritis, but they can offer help and support. There is a branch in Darlington which meets monthly on the second Wednesday at 7.30 pm at the Staff Social Club, Darlington Memorial Hospital. Their Chairperson can be contacted on 01325 250043. They also run free courses to help people live a better life while dealing with the problems their arthritis can cause. For further information please contact Marilyn on 0191 4203875.

Darlington One Life - Making Healthy Choices Easier

Patients will be offered a 12 week course attending the gym twice a week free of charge for 1½ hour supervised sessions. The scheme will include specialist obesity, chronic back pain, cardiac rehabilitation and mental health classes. Activities such as arts and music will be offered to combat factors that effect the mentally ill and promote social inclusion.

If you feel that you or the person you care for could benefit from support in improving your lifestyle and health please contact your GP or Practice Nurse. Anyone who is inactive and also feels low or has other health problems might qualify for this programme. For further information please contact Pauline Gill at Carers Support Service.

Help Ken to Raise Money for Carers!

Ken Hill is going to raise money for Darlington's carers as a forerunner to Carers' Week. On June 3rd he will be walking 10,000 steps (roughly three miles) with colleagues. On behalf of the carers Ken would be grateful to receive sponsorship payments from anyone who would like to show their support. Either call in at the Carers' Support Service or ring 357533 to pledge support.
